Dr. Telma Sousa Almeida is an Assistant Professor in Forensic Psychology at ISPA-Instituto Universitário, in Lisbon, Portugal.

She specializes in child development, psychological assessment and forensic interviewing of vulnerable witnesses.

Dr. Telma Sousa Almeida obtained her Ph.D. in Psychology from the University of Cambridge, United Kingdom, under the direction of Professor Michael E. Lamb. She has a bachelor’s degree in psychology and a master’s degree in psychology of justice and deviant behaviour. She also has postgraduate diplomas in Legal Medicine and in Forensic Psychological Assessment, as well as training in Forensic Interviewing.

Telma currently contributes to a BSc Psychology third year module on Forensic and Criminal Psychology and several Master Forensic Psychology modules on Eyewitness Psychology, Forensic Psychology at the service of Police Investigations, Forensic Psychological Assessment, as well as supervises Master psychology students.

Her main research interest focus on eyewitness recall of personally experienced events, working on improving methods of eliciting accurate evidence from vulnerable witnesses (children and adults). Over the years, she has been practising​ psychology, teaching and collaborating in international research projects involving vulnerable victims, witness or perpetrators of crimes. She worked on international projects in the fields of child maltreatment, forensic and developmental psychology, juvenile delinquency, and peace psychology and human rights, as well as authored and co-authored scientific papers and book chapters.
